Gateway North East 2016

Summer Holiday Activities 2016

The summer holidays are fast approaching. Our full programme for the summer for each area of the county will be available over the next few weeks.

Gateway North East is a charity that works with children and young people with a disability or a barrier to learning. Many of our staff and volunteers have children with additional needs themselves. We work with the local authority to provide good short breaks for children and young people with the limited resources from the local authority that we receive and the money we are able to fundraise.

These activities will be running in the following locations for the full six weeks (excluding the bank holiday)

The ‘Too Cool for school’ programme is open to children who are reception age (in September 2016) and over. Siblings are also welcome.

There will be a full programme of onsite and offsite activities to choose from on each day of the school holidays.

As well as the ‘too cool for school’ programmes we have activities for young carers (Gateway Stars) and we are running two 2 night residentials on week 2 and week 5 to which young people aged 8 and over will be able to access.

All our activities are open to everyone. We are disability focussed but not exclusive. There are subsidised places if your child lives in the Durham Dales or East Durham Area. These are open to all children in those areas with a disability or barrier to learning and subsidised places are on a first come first served basis.

Evergreen Onsite

During our programme there will be a two-week scheme running at Evergreen school on weeks 2 and 3. This will be run by Evergreen staff with some Gateway input. This is exclusively for Evergreen pupils. However, there will be offsite activities available during those days for none Evergreen pupils and siblings with an Evergreen pick up.

Cost:

All our schemes are subsidised through fundraising however we do have some additional subsidies because of Durham County Council Funding Please see below for cost.

The cost of the subsidised holiday schemes for those who live in the Dales or East Durham area who have a disability is £6 per day (excluding transport) on the Dales and East Durham Schemes. (places are limited)

The cost of other holiday activities will be £15 per day for the first child and £10 thereafter for subsequent children for onsite activities. And £25 per person offsite activities for the first child and £20 for each child thereafter.

The cost of the Friday Family day activity will be £20 per child with a carer free.

The cost for the residential will be £150 per person

Gateway Stars (young carer days) are free

We are a charity and we would not exclude any child on the basis of ability to pay so in addition to the subsidised places we also have other ways that families can pay for the activities which include fundraising, a savings scheme, various grants that we can help you apply for etc. If this is something you would be interested in knowing more about, please indicate this on the form or contact Joanne.

Transport:

We are also aware that some people may need transport

Unfortunately, transport is not funded by the local authority.

We have tried to organise a pick up point in various locations for this purpose.

If you require a taxi pick up from home, we can organise this for you however this will have to be paid for by yourself.

It is important that we know who will be coming to our holiday activities so that we are able to send you the right programmes and put the right support in place for each individual child.

In order to enable us to send out the correct booklets to you so that you can make your final choice of activities we would be grateful if you could fill in the following reply slip and return it to school by Friday 24th June.

For more information about any of the above please contact Joanne or Becky 0191 5263112 (mobile 07878510312) or Becky@gatewaynortheast.org.uk www.gateway-north-east.org.uk
